Hydrogen Cars
A hydrogen car is a motor vehicle that uses hydrogen fuel cell technology for its power supply.Today, the concept of a hydrogen-powered car is becoming very popular because of their capabilities to cover long distance on a single charge, as well as cutting down on fossil fuel dependency and emissions. The chief emission of a hydrogen car is merely water vapor. Hydrogen cars are not yet available in all markets, but are gaining traction worldwide.
2009 Honda FCX Clarity
Honda’s new FCX Clarity model is a fuel-cell powered family sedan that is capable of achieving up to 72 mpg combined city/highway fuel economy, which is about three times the fuel economy of a regular, gas-powered vhicle. Its driving range is about 270 miles with zero emissions other than water vapor. A limited number of vehicles are being leased to Southern Californians during 2008.
BMW Concept X6 ActiveHybrid
BMW’s Concept X6 ActiveHybrid is a concept vehicle that showcases innovative BMW ActiveHybrid technology in the world's first “sports activity coupé.” The Concept X6 has a two-mode active transmission that increases efficiency by around 20 percent and enables complete electric-power driving. The BMW Concept X6 ActiveHybrid should hit production in 2010.
BMW 7 Series ActiveHybrid
The BMW7 Series ActiveHybrid is the first hydrogen-powered luxury saloon in mass production. The BMW Hydrogen 7, based on the standard 7 Series, is equipped with an internal combustion engine that is capable of running on liquid hydrogen or gasoline. The Hydrogen 7 is a near-zero emissions car that is powered by a 12-cylinder engine delivering up to 260hp.
